View full detailsLegend has it that green tea was discovered in China as far back as 5000 years ago. It is a product of the Camellia sinensis plant but does not go through the oxidation process like black tea. Instead, it is quickly dried and rolled. This results in a lighter, subtle flavour profile. Green tea quite literally tastes “green” due to the presence of slightly bitter tannins, often being compared to green grapes or an earthy, grassy flavour depending on the green tea blend.
Green tea tastes best when prepared with a loose leaf variety. Loose leaf green tea is often made from higher quality tea leaves than bagged teas, resulting in a premium brew that doesn’t sacrifice flavour. This results in a stronger depth of flavour which is important, when talking about green tea in particular because of its delicate and subtle flavour profiles.
Ensure your loose leaf green tea is brewed to perfection by using the right steeping method. Bring fresh water to a boil but before pouring it over your loose leaf green tea, let it still for a few minutes to avoid burning the leaves. Steep your tea for 2-3 minutes before either removing the loose leaves or pouring the tea into your cup.
Green tea is a versatile tea that is easy to appreciate. Enjoy our wide selection of fresh loose leaf green tea, perfect for any tea lover. We carry pure varieties and pleasant blends so there is something for everyone.
